November 2007

I’m now back in Rochester, NY after a fabulous trip out to Denver, Co. My top choice graduate school is University of Denver followed by University of Colorado at Boulder, The University of Arizona, University of New Mexico, and New Mexico State University. No matter what…I’m heading out WEST :-) I LOVE it out there!

I now have three separate galleries, my website looks so much cleaner. I’m happy. Check it out…

1. business cards
2. promo cards
3. order custom portfolio
4. put together portfolio
5. show my work and get feedback from people OUTSIDE the RIT community
6. make a list of my influences and post their sites on this blog
7. find an internship!!!

I’m not intimidated by this list at all….really.

I have come to the realization that I now suck at writing. I was an Honors English student all through high school and my freshman year of college. Straight A’s. Then I transfered to an art school. I have spent the last two years creating art and I’ve only had to write maybe three papers. I NEED to work on my writing skills…and what a more perfect outlet then this blog?

I just launched my website www.megancharland.com. It still needs some work, the layout of the gallery especially, but I have registered for a web design course next quarter to help me out with that. With this website up I can now finish up my business cards and promo cards. I’m excited. Moving forward is always very empowering. Check it out and let me know what you think!

In 28 weeks I graduate from RIT (yea!) and I plan on attending graduate school. My top choice right now is the University of Denver where I want to work towards a MA in Art History concentrating in Museum Studies. This upcoming quarter I am hunting for an internship at one of the local art galleries/museums in the area. I am receiving a lot of assistance in this search from a few of the faculty members on campus. I’m flying to Denver this Saturday for a 5 day vacation, when I return hopefully I will have some interviews lined up!

I have been asked to assist an architectural photographer tomorrow on a shoot. I have never assisted before and I am really excited for the experience. Wish me luck…

This image is 1 of 5 from my latest project. For the past 10 weeks I have been working with combining photographic illustrations that I create with photographs that I take. What interests me with these images is the questioning of what was real to begin with? This age of Photoshop allows us to manipulate our images to such an extreme that now it is an instinct to question what is real.

So, this is my second blog. My first one was designed for more of an interaction between my audience and myself. For now, this blog is going to be more of a “sketchbook” for my own purposes. Conversation is always welcome, for the most part I will just be putting stuff out there. So…here I go.
