My art,

I have finally finished my website. I’m happy with it. A week or month from now I might change it, like everything else there is always room for improvement. I love the feeling of accomplishment. Knowing that I am making progress in my professional or even personal life is such a high.

I just registered with del.icio.us which allows me to bookmark my favorite sites while also allowing others to view them. Pretty cool. Here I will be able to post really random sites I view without having to feel like I have to post every site directly on this blog. The list to the right is getting pretty long… Yet another way to organize. Awesome.

Up until this point all of my posts have been uncategorized…not anymore! I now have two different categories: “random thoughts” and “updates”. I plan on adding a few more soon and eventually make a really detailed list to organize this blog a little more. Yea for progress!

It is the 9th week of 2008. My calendar alerted me of that today. I find myself now reflecting back on exactly what I have accomplished this year. Normally this time of reflection is at the end of the year, but I feel like now that I have this sense of time…that it is the 9th week, not the 8th nor the 10th, I am being forced to question if I am wasting my life. OK maybe “life” was a little over-dramatic…lets just go with wasting my time.
Anyways… I have been working on my website non-stop and I finally got around to making a business card. I have been trying to spend more and more time just finding time to relax…I take life way too seriously. I can honestly say that I have “senioritis” and am anxiously waiting for May 23-24 to come so I can GRADUATE! I have applied to graduate school and have made a really really long list of my back-up options in case I do not get accepted, even though all I want to do is move to Denver and work on a Masters. I have also spent the last 8 weeks really trying to improve my relationships, especially with my family. I have also travelled to Las Vegas and Red Rock Canyon and took a lot of pictures. I am being published and have been exhibited. I have laughed and I have cried.
I can only imagine what the rest of this year will bring…

I decided on a new “skin” for this blog. I wanted to be able to change the header to show off my work. What artist would not want to promote their work? www.megancharland.com …I just had to!

If you look to the bottom right of this blog you will notice my newly acquired Flickr account. Right now there is only one image, so it is not ridiculously exciting but I hope to get some more images up relatively soon. If anything this is just another element to my blog to have fun with.

In 3 months I will be graduating! 3 more months! I can’t believe it. I have applied to graduate school and have received word that I made it past the graduate admissions office and now my application sits in the Art History department. My fate now rests in the hands of a committee. As much as I want to be accepted…I have to face the reality that there is the chance that I will be rejected. What will I do then? As I have stated previously in this fabulous blog…I do not want to be a lab monkey. So…what will I do? Something to think about…

…dance. No, not really. It seems all I want to do lately is update my website or draw, paint, doodle, take a picture, etc… I have been dreading going to work in the lab. Customers are annoying and the job is no longer rewarding. A monkey could do my job. Why can’t I spend all day making art and drinking coffee? Right…damn rent.
RoCo is having a 6×6by2008 exhibit on June 6/7 (will be up ‘till July 6th). I have been made a Lieutenant, which basically means I have to collect 40 6″x6″ pieces of art, by the end of May. No sweat… I am SO EXCITED to see this show up! Can you imagine 2008 pieces of 6″x6″ works of art covering the gallery walls?
So…if you have work…give it to me! Now! For real…right now
More information to follow…
Up until recently I have had a jaded view of Rochester, NY. This city does not have the best reputation. Since I have been interning at RoCo I have started to warm up to this metro area. I drive downtown every (well almost every) Tuesday and Thursday, onto East Ave, one of the “hip” places to be…and I am comfortable walking on the streets now. I visit downtown more often, a movie, a coffee, a day in a museum, whatever. I used to think that when I graduate this May from RIT that I would leave here and never look back. Now, especially because of RoCo, I have every intention of coming back to visit. Just maybe not during the winter months…
